Carol Vernallis - Blogging Task.
Carol Vernallis studied editing and camerawork closely in music videos.
Carol observed that edits in music videos come much more frequently than in film, many stand out as disjuncture and the editing seems rhythmic basis.
The usual rules of 'continuity' editing (found in classic broadcast fiction) are broken in order to draw attention to what is on the screen.
Edits may be really obvious to draw attention to themselves, such as wipes and special effects added.
Jump cuts are often used in music videos.
A master shot (base track) is frequently used to give video structure.
The camera may move just in time with the music.
My chosen examples - Eminem - Berserk, Wretch 32 - Don't Go and Katy Perry - Firework.
